PRLG is my 2nd favorite Power Rangers season. I felt like the energy that came off of In Space transferred nicely onto this season. I feel like the cast was great once again. And over the span of 45 episodes told many interesting stories. Sure, there are some flaws when dealing with the lights of orion, and the haphazardly done lost galaxy arc. But the fierce finale, and other stories told still makes this unit a great series. The diverse group of rangers is still very intriguing to me. You have brothers Leo and Mike. Kai, who probably could have been the leader. Damon, who knows how to fix anything. Kendrix, half of the brain trust to the group. (Kai had smarts too) And Maya...the woman from Mirinoi would is also an empath with the Galacta Beasts. Trakeena starts off as a lousy villain, but trains and becomes strong enough to fight against the rangers.
My 5 Favorite PRLG Episodes:
1.) "Memories of Mirinoi" (#23)- This episode is my favorite because this is the one time in the series Maya gets to fight a monster alone. (In Loyax's last battle, she doesn't want to fight Loyax) Also, seeing the bond play out between Maya and Kendrix is very interesting. I would think this episode was in production just around or after the time Valerie knew she had cancer and they would have to do something with the character. And with hindsight, knowing that Kendrix would be killed off, it makes the viewer pay more attention to certain episodes like this one. Also at thought here is also why they held onto the Galaxy book for so long before finally ending up in the Lost Galaxy?
2.) "The Power of Pink" (#31)- Having the space rangers around is never a bad thing. And whether or not you agree with Kendrix's revival at the end of the series, this moment is still very powerful and would move most viewers. My only issue with this episode is the speedy end and lack of coherent story. "We have our mission back on Earth" "Oh, we do? Why did we have to sneak onto the MegaShip to get our old morphers?" But even dealing with that, everything taking place before is still memorable. And Carlos had gotten rid of his long hair for his return...that sucked too. (LOL)
3.) "The Lost Galactabeasts, Part 2" (#20)- Just like In Space's "Mission to Secret City" I absolutely love it when all the rangers are divided up and are busy trying to solve a problem. Leo sets out to try to destroy the evil zords with his motorcycle. Kai and Damon are busy holding off Sting Wingers. And Kendrix is busy with the Galaxy book. Having their own Galactabeasts refuse to fight is an obstacle many other ranger teams probably would never figure out an answer to. (Unless they just magically get new weapons) This lost galactabeasts arc is also what finally gets us into using the galaxy book for anything.
4.) "Enter the Lost Galaxy" (#35)- I get it, the show should have entered the Lost Galaxy much earlier than the did. But putting that aside, this episode that placed them within the Lost Galaxy was very well done. Having that guardian coming back for the book and befriending Kai was a much better way of having Deviot capturing the book than lets say...Deviot just blowing up that GSA building and finding the book in the rubble. After Kendrix's demise, Kai ends up being the sole brain of this galaxy team. Remember, he and Leo would later figure out how to have a shot of escaping the lost galaxy.
5.) "Destined For Greatness" (#16)- This episode is just all around wonderful. I mean, sure, I hate that the other rangers get captured. But having this time to focus on Leo and Mike and destiny and fate was really worthwhile. I personally never believed that Mike would have been a better or worse red ranger than Leo. Mike was probably more adept to being a good leader. But Leo's ability to act on instinct and passion is probably what allowed him to become a more noteworthy red ranger. I love good dialogue, and this episode had plenty of it between the brothers.
