PRiS is my favorite power ranger season. As a kid I only paid attention to the power ranger series occasionally until this series began. As a seven year old, I have no idea exactly why I latched on to this series. I think every aspect of this show had a part in it. I can definitely say now though that I still adore this series just has much today. I believe this series had the best combination of storytelling, visuals, and acting. It is hard to not like any of the rangers from this season. Cassie and Carlos are among my favorite rangers. Astronema is either my #1 or #2 favorite lead villain. And the rangers suits and weapons are also among my favorites. This 43 episode journey piled in a lot of action and moved a fair amount of plot. I just wished they would have canned the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle episode and just got a 3rd part to the finale instead.
My Top 5 favorite PRiS Episodes:
1.) "Mission to Secret City" (#38)- This episode sticks with me not because of Andros getting his battlizer, but just because this episode is basically the running start to the finale. Astronema creates a clever way to try to create a bigger army. The team gets split when T.J., Cassie, and Ashley must find a way to get inside the city and find the others. This episode features several instances of using technology to conquer their goals. And I just love how everything unravels from there. And you can never go wrong with out of suit fight scenes.
2.) "Five of a Kind" (#34)- I really enjoy this episode because this is just another example of T.J. being the defacto team leader. The mindful idea to try to fight a psycho of a different color was clever. But then to mask their colors was even better. In this episode T.J. became the 4th space ranger to get injured seriously enough to spend time at the ship infirmary. These days in the power ranger series, you rarely see anyone with signs of being real beat up for just a period of time after a bad fight.
3.) "A Rift in the Rangers" (#33)- This episode has always been a favorite just because of how ridiculously funny Ashley and Cassie's dispute over cleaning is. In a darker series like this one, it was great to have that comedic aspect thrown into a psycho rangers episode. You also have the weird cross-stories playing out here. Ashley and Cassie start off against each other in the episode. Meanwhile, Psycho Yellow and Psycho Pink are busy plotting to capture and destroy rangers. Then by the end, Ashley and Cassie make up. The psycho rangers go against each another, and Psycho Pink ends up destroyed.
4.) "Always A Chance" (#25)- The theme of this episode is just terrific. Rarely does the series highlight the tricky aspect of being a power ranger. If things do not work out as planned, then someone could get hurt. The series was able to take that funny LizWizard monster and use him in an episode that told a great story. I believe if any other ranger had hurt someone else, they would not have even thought about quitting. During this season Carlos ends up having the least amount of development. However, this episode gave him great focus and illustrates how seriously he took himself.
5.) "A Date With Danger" (#23)- This episode was just too stinking cute for me. Justin Nimmo is adorable and Melody Perkins is just pretty. The show had been sneaking in quick scenes showing the audience that Astronema really had a heart. With this episode, Astronema let go of her hate for humanity and wanted to date Zhane. Yet Zhane had little to no reservations about dating the enemy. Half of this episode felt like watching a soap opera. (and I love soaps - so it worked for me) All in all, a good episode that further showed us that there was hope for Astronema to become good. I wonder if she cooked all that food at their date site, or if she whizzed it up with her magical powers? (LOL)
